Venous Edema & Treatments
When you can not only see the effects of Venous Edema in your legs, but feel them in the form of bloating, swelling and even pain, it’s time to address this condition with the care and expertise of Dekalb Vein Center.
When a patient has chronic venous insufficiency, pressure inside the veins can push fluid out into surrounding tissue leading to fluid retention (also known as edema). The fluid irritates surrounding tissue leading to inflammation and swelling. Patients with venous edema may experience pain, tenderness, skin discoloration, and venous ulcers. Because swelling of the legs can have many causes, it’s important to have your edema evaluated by a doctor.

Get rid of your pestering spider veins with a combination of foam sclerotherapy and laser treatments. This procedure takes only fifteen to thirty minutes, and you can get right back to regular activity. Spider vein removal is complete, leaving only clear and smoother skin.
Radiofrequency Ablation, also known as VNUS Closure®, uses a heating process to seal a troublesome vein closed. Using ultrasound guidance, treatments are precise with small incisions which offer less bruising, less pain and a quicker return to daily activities than traditional vein stripping.
An injection technique is used to treat a number of varicose vein conditions that were previously treated with surgery and incisions. These injections avoid incisions and since there is no trauma to the leg, there are no unsightly scars and you can quickly return to your daily activities.
Chronic venous insufficiency, also known as venous reflux, is a condition in which your veins no longer work as they should.
Inside your veins are tiny, one-way valves designed to keep blood moving toward your heart. When these valves become weak or damaged the blood can reflux, meaning flow backwards, and begin to pool inside the vein.
Left untreated, chronic venous insufficiency may lead to problems such as varicose veins, restless legs, heavy legs, swelling, skin changes, and venous ulcers. Therefore, treating chronic venous insufficiency is vital to your overall health and wellbeing.
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive varicose vein foam treatment.
The microfoam fills the desired section of the vein and treats the vein wall, causing the diseased vein to collapse. This allows the body to naturally redirect blood flow to other, healthy veins.
This procedure is performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. It can be used to treat either large or small varicose veins. There is no downtime for this procedure; however, you may be asked to wear compressions stocking for up to two weeks following the procedure.
Phlebectomy, also called microphlebectomy or stab phlebectomy, is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove superficial varicose veins. These are varicose veins that have remained after venous closure or areas of localized reflux varicose veins. It involves the physical removal of veins that lie just below the skin. Phlebectomy is often used in conjunction with treatment for deeper veins such as RFA or VenaSeal.
During the procedure, tiny incisions are made in the skin above the varicose vein. These incisions are small enough to heal on their own without stitches. The affected portion of the vein is accessed through the incisions and carefully removed using special surgical tools.
Phlebectomy is performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.
